Chapter 5! =O

1. "Who Is J.R. Simplot? What Connection Does J.R. Simplot Have To The Fast Food Industry?"
J.R. Simplot is an 8th grade dropout, who is now one of the richest men in the United States. He was the first man to think of Frozen French Fries, and since the fries tasted better cooked in hot oil than being baked in an oven, he had to find restaurant owners who would recognize the tremendous labor-saving benefits of his frozen fries. Due to this he became the main supplier of french fries to McDonald's.
2. "What Is The Fallacy Of Composition?"
"The fallacy of composition" is a mistaken belief that what seems good for an individual will still be good when others do the same thing. Since around 1945, farmers have been persuaded to adopt one new technology after another, hoping to improve their yields, reduce their costs, and outsell their neighbors.

Introduction

1: According to the author of "Fast Food Nation", the McDonald's Corporation has become a powerful symbol of America's service economy. This is obviously true if the Golden Arches are more widely recognized than the Christian Cross. McDonald's is also the nation's largest purchaser of beef, pork, and potatoes, and the second largest purchaser of chicken. McDonald's spends more money on advertising and marketing than any other brand, which in return ended up replacing Coca-Cola as the world's most famous brand.
2: The author wrote this book , and I quote, "out of a belief that people should know what lies behing the shiny, happy surface of every fast food transaction. They should know what really lurks between those sesame-seed buns."
